New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) produced a dominating performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2025 match, winning the game comprehensively with skipper Shreyas Iyer at the forefront.
The ace batter smashed a vital half-century, extending his impressive form and assisting PBKS in chasing down 172 runs comfortably.
PBKS Trolls Rishabh Pant on Social Media
The victory was not only celebrated on the field but also on social media, where Punjab Kings took a sly jab at LSG captain Rishabh Pant. During the IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant had shown relief at not being selected by PBKS after being purchased by LSG for a record Rs 27 crore. Now, following PBKS’s thumping victory, the franchise responded with a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter):
“Tension toh auction mein hi khatam ho gayi thi!” (Our tension was over at the auction itself!)
The post included a clip of Shreyas Iyer, an obvious nod to PBKS choosing Iyer over Pant in the high-stakes auction. Iyer was purchased for Rs 26.75 crore, becoming temporarily the costliest player in IPL history before LSG outbid PBKS for Pant.
Fortunes Contrasted: Iyer vs. Pant
Though PBKS’s investment in Shreyas Iyer is yielding rich dividends, Pant has not been able to creat an impression so far. Pant has scored mere 0, 15, and 2 in his first three matches for LSG, with apprehension being raised about his form.
Iyer, meanwhile, has been in sensational form, scoring 149 runs in two games and not getting out in either of the innings. He began IPL 2025 with a mind-boggling *97 against Gujarat Titans (GT)**, taking PBKS to a powerful total of 243 runs.
In the encounter against LSG, Iyer once again displayed his class, scoring a calm knock of 52 off only 30 balls*, leading PBKS to win with 3.4 overs remaining.
PBKS Off to a Strong Start
Having won back-to-back matches, PBKS is now second in the IPL 2025 standings, and this is a great start for Iyer as a captain. His leadership credentials were never in doubt, having guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 championship and Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph. He also emerged as India‘s top run scorer in the Champions Trophy 2025.
With Punjab Kings going on a winning streak, everyone’s eyes are still on Shreyas Iyer’s incredible run and if Rishabh Pant can regain his form for LSG.
