4 policemen killed, 3 terrorists gunned down in encounter in J&K’s Kathua

The encounter broke out around 8 am on Thursday amid intensified operations led by Jammu and Kashmir Police against a recently infiltrated group of ultras.

According to the news agency PTI, three suspected terrorists and four policemen were killed in a day-long gun-battle in the remote forest of the Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday. Seven other police personnel, one of which was a deputy superintendent of police, were wounded in the confrontation that was led by Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and was supported by the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officials added.

The Indian Army admitted the death of the policemen involved in a tweet post on the same day it happened. The falling of the jawans was confirmed through a tweet made by the following army on local X. #RisingStarCorps pays tribute to the courage & unbreakable spirit of the gallant @JmuKmrPolice staff who laid down their lives in the line of duty while battling courageously in the course of ongoing OP SAFIYAN in #Kathua. Their sacrifice & service will never be forgotten,” Rising Star Corps of Indian Army tweeted.

However, exact numerical data was not mentioned in the tweet. Referred to as intensified operations, the operation drew forth from the Police and Jammu and Kashmir area to flush-out a group of terribles that are suspected to have penetrated the region. According to the news agency PTI, which cited officials, the group is believed to be aligned with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)-a Pakistani terrorist organization.

The gunfight that was at 8 o’clock in the morning lasted during the intensified search operations led by the Jammu and Kashmir Police against the terrorists of Jaish.

Officials told PTI that the operation which was to kill the terrorists was successful and the first confrontation between the terrorists and the security forces took 9 hours to pass and it ended at 4 o’clock in the evening on Thursday.

The police force and the security officers on the special search team were successful in conducting the search operations in the targeted area and the suspects were openly not found. Authorities have also confirmed that the police force of the special search team which conducted the operations in the targeted area has also come back safely with all the necessary items that were taken for the operations.

The battle ensued on Thursday at 8 in the morning during the intensified operations carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police force against the group of terrorists which were sneaked in from some other place and their probable group is of the JeM based in the Pakistan area, police officials reported, referring to the incident.
