5 Injured As Man Attacks People With Iron Pipe At Golden Temple In Amritsar

Five individuals were hurt as they were assaulted by a man with rods in Amritsar's Golden Temple complex, according to the police. The individual was apprehended and the crisis was brought to an end, news agency IANS reported.

According to the police, the man has injured five people when he attacked them with an iron rod at the Golden Temple site in Amritsar. He was caught and the situation was taken under control, an IANS news agency report stated.

Panic broke out among the people there as the man started to rampage near the langar where the worshipers and the community members had gathered. Both ‘sewadars’ (volunteers) associated with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) were injured in the incident. One of the injured is under observation at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar.

IANS quoted.People inside the temple complex were galvanized by a combination of acting and shouting to overpower the attacker and his accomplice who were later arrested.The police find out that the attacker scoped the area out for some time prior to the attack.

“The second accused, allegedly, claimed that recce was carried out by the one attacking the devotees,” a police officer told the press. The leader of the gang of thugs left the restricted zone and returned with a sturdy iron rod before starting to beat staff, and worshipers who had come forward to help.

It was told by the police officer, Sarml Singh, the suspect was named Zulfan and he is a resident of Haryana. He also mentioned that he was wounded in the course of the incident. The police, in their turn, reported to the local community that such a preliminary probe is planned to find out the reason underpinning the attack and they exhorted those present not to lose heart.

In the meantime, members of the Sikh community got furious over the event. The SGPC lodged a police complaint against the perpetrator. The episode has come to the fore and the worries about the welfare of Sikh pilgrims are widespread.

A few months ago, a man fired a bullet at Shromani Akali Dal head and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on his way to the Golden Temple in December of last year. Narayan Singh Chaura, the one who launched the attack, was arrested shortly after, as he was heavily overpowered by the bodyguard.
