Curfew in Nagpur areas following row over Aurangzeb’s mausoleum violence
Violence began in Nagpur on Monday after news went out that a sacred book had been damaged at a protest against Aurangzeb's tomb.

A curfew has been imposed in many parts of Nagpur following violence on Monday night, instigated by rumors that a religious book was desecrated at a protest demanding the demolition of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb‘s tomb in Khuldabad.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singhal ordered the curfew late Monday evening under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), under which authorities can pass urgent orders in order to prevent public nuisance or likelihood of danger.
“Curfew is a precautionary measure to avoid any further aggravation and to keep law and order intact. People are asked to remain indoors and not believe any misinformation,” stated Commissioner Singhal.

Aurangzeb‘s mausoleum, situated in Khuldabad near Aurangabad, has been the focal point of political and communal controversies in recent times. Some groups have called for its demolition, citing historical
grievances linked to the Mughal emperor. Tensions were heightened following a protest against the tomb that purportedly resulted in the desecration of a sacred book, although police have not yet confirmed the validity of these allegations.

Security personnel have been deployed in sensitive locations, and internet services can be temporarily shut down to prevent the circulation of rumours. Markets, schools, and public gatherings in the curfew areas are closed until further notice.
Police have also requested citizens to avoid spreading unsubstantiated information on social media platforms.
