Government Job, Rs 4 Crore Or A Plot: Vinesh Phogat Given State Benefits Choice
The Haryana government offered Vinesh Phogat a choice when it comes to receiving state benefits under its sports policy - a Rs 4 crore cash award, a plot allotment under Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) or a 'Group A' government job.

Former wrestler and now Congress MLA, Vinesh Phogat was offered the Haryana government’s sports policy benefits in a form of cash prize, of Rs 4 crore, an allotment of a plot under Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), or a ‘Group A’ job. The panel of ministers, chaired by Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, resolved the issue.
The way of a cash prize of Rs 4 crore, a plot in HSVP, or a ‘Group A’ job is no different to the one the government offers to the silver medallist in the Olympics under the state sports policy. But only one of the benefits can be available to Phogat as she is now an elected representative from Julana in the Jind district. Despite the fact that Phogat has been contacted, she has not given any answer yet.
“Now that Vinesh Phogat is an MLA, the government plans to talk to her about which benefits she would like to avail,” Mr. Saini said.”Vinesh Phogat had raised this issue in the Vidhan Sabha. In today’s cabinet meeting her issue was treated as a special case and considered for grant of benefits under the sports policy,” he added.
It was reiterated by Saini that Phogat was not able to participate in Paris Olympics due to procedural decisions. He had tweeted during those times that under no circumstances would he let Haryana’s honour be thrown away for Vinesh Phogat.
When weight issues caused her to be disqualified before a gold medal bout in the 50-kilogram category during a budget session of the assembly, she had also complained about this as a violation of the promise given by the Chief Minister to her to treat her like a medallist.”The chief minister had said that Vinesh is our daughter and she would receive the reward as an Olympic silver medallist. This promise has still not been fulfilled,” she said in the Assembly.”It is not about money, it is about respect. Many people from across the state tell me that I must have received the cash award,” Phogat added.
On the other hand, Mr. Saini revealed that post the “Cabinet” meeting, which was held recently, he was visited by a group of Punjab farmers, who were accompanied by sarpanches numbering 15-20, and requested his presence at several events. He maintained that the people of Punjab have lost their hope, which is why they are considering BJP being the best candidate for the next elections after failures with the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Proclaiming that the farmers of Punjab regard Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their role model and find his policy to be impressive, he said that people from the whole country are also impressed with his policies. It was stated by him that over the last 10 years the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought India up on the international stage.
Regarding the upcoming wheat procurement season, Mr. Saini said that he had recently had a meeting with the officials to review the preparations and had issued all the necessary instructions.“ The state is expecting around 75 lakh metric tons of wheat to be bought and we have given the officials some directions” to ensure farmers will not have any problems with their crops during the lifting, gunny bags, or mandi-related processes, he stressed.
