John Abraham reveals OTT platforms ‘threw out’ The Diplomat, rejected it: ‘We have proved everyone wrong’

Actor John Abraham opened up on how OTT platforms turned down his new film, The Diplomat, since they “didn’t find it great”. In an interview with Pinkvilla, John mentioned that the good thing about The Diplomat is that people had no expectations from the movie. The actor discussed studios, OTT platforms and their response to his film. John added, “The loss of faith occurs from the studio. So when a studio sees a movie when it goes and does a round of OTTs because a studio might want to reduce the risk by sending it to an OTT channel when some OTT channels have rejected The Diplomat because they didn‘t think it was great. They didn‘t think it was good. They rejected the film; they discarded it.

He also commented on how those who watched The Diplomat reached him in their admiration of the movie. “With The Diplomat, we have proven the studio wrong, the OTTs wrong, and everybody wrong. The good thing about The Diplomat was that everyone‘s expectation was zero.“. So, from a zero, if you don’t take a two-three but take a direct 10, people are like, ‘Oh, my god, this is unbelievable‘. I’ve got people coming and saying, ‘Does this studio realize that they have produced the best film of the last decade under their belt? ‘.That’s a win for me,” he furthered.

Also starring in The Diplomat, directed by Shivam Nair, is Sadia Khateeb. Starring in the title role of diplomat JP Singh are John, in a film based on true events. Produced by John’s JA Entertainment and T-Series, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl of Wakaoo Films, Sameer Dixit and Jatish Varma of Fortune Pictures and Rakesh Dang of Seeta Films. The movie, which hit the screens on March 14, has collected ₹19.10 crore net so far.
