Meerut Police Warns Against Roadside Prayers Ahead of Eid, Threatens Passport and Licence Cancellation Meerut
SSP Vipin Tada says that the security agencies are in a proper way of working with the district administration to ensure peaceful Eid celebrations Meerut,
March 28: Last Thursday, the Meerut Police made the announcement calling people not to pray in areas where no permission is given, especially on the roads and in public areas as this is a matter of concern for the police. The police issued a warning to the residents and stated that any violation would be subject to strict actions, the Legal Department shall cancel the passports and cease the driver’s licenses of the offenders.
Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh made PTI know about the distribution of the notifications and the topic. “Namaz should not be offered on the roads. Eid prayers must be held either at local mosques or at the designated Eidgah premises,” he said. Formally,
the police also communicate that if the masses meet individually violating such orders, criminal cases will be instituted. “They should now know that they may face penal consequences like prosecuting them directly and even revoking their passports or driving licenses. Moreover, they will have to bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the court for obtaining another passport afterward,” Singh stated. Last year, in addition to the prayer-on-the-road infractions, more than 80 people were referred to legal consequences. The police sounded a note of warning that this time would be different. Their legal measures would be stricter. The seized documents will be held until the court makes a decision. The reaction of this directive is also a matter of political concern.
Jayant Chaudhary, a Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief, made strong remarks involved in the debate saying, “Policing towards Orwellian 1984” in a post on X which is now known as Twitter. Moreover, George Orwell’s Novel, Nineteen Eighty-four, a work of dystopic literature is referred to by the comment. The book features a scenario where the government has all information under full control.
Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada stressed that the security forces are very closely working with the district administration for the proper and peaceful celebration of Eid.” The PAC and RAID personnel have been moved in. Courses of flags are being run in some areas of concern, both uniformed and plainclothes cops are to be manned at the key places,” he said.
The SSP instructed the police officers to be on the lookout for people who misbehave on social media. “We are poised to be on the alert and we will be greatly helpful to people preventing them from pulling any pranks on social networks to disrupt any religious service, by closely following them in their actions against the law,” he noted.
