Mumbai Traffic Police Crackdown During Holi: 17,000 offenders, Rs 1.8 Crore of fines
17,495 fine notices worth Rs 1.79 crore were issued by Mumbai Traffic Police on a special campaign against traffic offense during Holika Dahan and Holi.
Under the campaign, police mounted roadblocks at strategic points around the city on March 13 and 14, checking vehicles and taking strict action against violators. Earlier, authorities had issued a list of dos and don’ts, issuing warnings that violators would face legal action under the Maharashtra Police Act.
Enforcement Targets High-Risk Areas
The crackdown was aimed at high-risk zones susceptible to traffic offences. Serious offenses were drink-driving, overspeeding, helmet-less riding, triple riding on two-wheelers, and other violations of traffic rules.
Throughout the two-day drive, the police registered:
- 4,949 helmet-less riding cases,
- 183 cases of drink-driving,
- 33 wrong-way driving violations,
- 992 one-way violation,
- 425 cases of triple riding,
- 1,942 signal jump cases,
- 826 cases of driving without a license.
Authorities Appeal to Citizens to Obey Traffic Regulations
Authorities appealed to people to obey traffic regulations to maintain road safety, particularly during festivals. The Mumbai Traffic Police stressed the need for safe driving to avoid accidents and maintain public safety.
