Mumbai police lodged an FIR against a teacher at a school on charges of thrashing a Class 5 student with a stick for conversing during the lecture. This has occurred in Chembur and caused injury to the victim. The matter is being investigated by authorities under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Mumbai, March 25: A teacher from a school in Mumbai’s Chembur area has been booked for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old student with a cane, police officials confirmed on Tuesday. The incident, which took place on March 21, came to light after the student’s father lodged a formal complaint.
The Class 5 student was allegedly beaten several times on her wrist, back, and waist for talking in the class, as per the complaint. But the complaint also alleges that the girl was simply glancing behind and was not involved in any misbehavior. The corporal punishment left the child injured, and the father went to the authorities.
As per the complaint, Mumbai Police have lodged a case against the female teacher under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Juvenile Justice Act. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a detailed probe is underway.
This incident has raised eyebrows on the practice of corporal punishment in schools, with parents and child rights activists demanding stern action against the practice. The school administration remains tight-lipped on the issue so far.
The authorities are ongoing with their investigation, and more updates in the case are on the cards soon.
