“Rahul Gandhi Slams Lok Sabha Speaker: ‘He Just Ran Away, Didn’t Let Me Speak’”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accuses Speaker Om Birla of denying him the opportunity to speak in Parliament, calling the proceedings "undemocratic" and raising concerns over shrinking democratic space.

Rahul Gandhi criticized Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for allegedly preventing him from speaking in Parliament. He claimed his requests to address key issues like unemployment and the Maha Kumbh Mela were ignored, calling the proceedings undemocratic.
New Delhi, March 27, 2025 – Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday accused Speaker Om Birla of preventing him from speaking during the parliamentary proceedings. Gandhi claimed that despite his repeated requests, he was not given a chance to raise key issues, calling the conduct of the House “undemocratic.”
“I don’t know what is going on… I requested him (the Speaker) to let me speak, but he just ran away and did not let me speak. This is no way to run the House,” Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament.
The senior Congress leader stated that he wanted to address significant national issues, including preparations for the Maha Kumbh Mela and the rising unemployment crisis. However, he alleged that each time he attempted to speak, he was prevented from doing so.
“I did nothing, I was quietly sitting. Yet, whenever I stand up, I am prevented from speaking. There is no place for democracy here,” he added.
Gandhi’s remarks have sparked fresh political controversy, with opposition parties echoing concerns over what they describe as a shrinking space for debate in Parliament. The ruling BJP, however, has dismissed the allegations, stating that proceedings were being conducted as per established norms.
With tensions escalating, all eyes are now on how the Speaker and the government respond to the opposition’s grievances in the coming days.
