Air India Is First Asian Airline to Provide Apple AirTag Baggage Tracking
Air India passengers are now able to track their checked baggage via Apple's AirTag technology on the website and app of the airline.

Air India has launched Apple AirTag integration for real-time baggage tracking, becoming the first Asian airline to provide this service. Passengers can now conveniently locate delayed baggage with the help of Apple devices.
New Delhi, April 8 — Missing bags could be a thing of the past for travelers on Air India flights.
In a major technology enhancement, Air India, owned by Tata Group, on Friday, April 5, said that it has incorporated Apple AirTag support in its baggage-tracking system and mobile application. The decision makes Air India the first carrier in Asia to provide AirTag integration with an aim to further improve passenger experience and mitigate baggage-related stress.
Air India passengers can now monitor their checked-in bags directly from their iPhones or any other Apple device. The new feature is an extension of the baggage tracking options already available through the Air India app and website.
The flyers who include their flight information below the “My Trips” section on the Air India app will begin to get real-time information regarding their baggage as soon as they are checked in. For website users, a new “Track my Bags” tab has been added to give them similar tracking facilities. Passengers can also track their bags by scanning the barcode given on their bag receipts.
As we become a world-class global airline, we are thrilled to provide our customers with an innovative solution to assist them in tracing their baggage in the event it fails to reach the destination on time,” said Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Air India’s Chief Digital & Technology Officer.
Here’s the process for the new AirTag feature: after customers report a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airport’s Baggage Counter if their baggage is delayed, they can create a ‘Share Item Location’ link using the Find My app on their Apple device. This connection is then to be uploaded through the Air India mobile app under Baggage > Lost and Found Check-in Baggage, or on the Customer Support Portal under Lost and Found Check-in Baggage > Share Item Location.
Air India’s staff can subsequently use the AirTag shared link to track down the missing bags on airport grounds and speed up their return to the passengers. Notably, to maintain privacy and security, the shared location will automatically time out either when the bag is recovered by its owner or after seven days. Passengers also possess the facility to end sharing of the location manually at any moment.
The feature is available on Apple devices operating iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.
Through this integration, Air India aims to establish a new benchmark in customer service and baggage handling efficiency, providing peace of mind to flyers and reiterating its commitment to innovation in aviation.
