Gurugram Police Arrest Technician for ‘Digital Rape’ of Air Hostess in Medanta Hospital
Medanta Hospital technician is arrested for digitally raping an air hostess in ICU while on ventilator; Gurugram Police solve the case based on CCTV footage and thorough staff questioning.

GURUGRAM, APRIL 19, 2025 — In a shocking instance of sexual assault within one of India’s most well-respected hospitals, Gurugram Police arrested a 25-year-old technician, Deepak Kumar, on Friday on the charges of committing digital rape on a half-conscious air hostess who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Medanta Hospital.
The victim, a 46-year-old West Bengal flight attendant, had come to Gurugram for airline training. She lodged a police complaint on April 14, accusing that she was sexually assaulted on a ventilator, within a hospital ICU room on the night of April 6.
Gurugram Police’s Quick Action
After lodging the complaint at Sadar Police Station, Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DCP Headquarters Dr Arpit Jain to deal with the case with immediacy and accuracy.
“More than 800 CCTV camera feeds on the hospital campus were scanned, and over 50 hospital staff members such as doctors, nurses, and technicians were interrogated. All angles—from duty rosters to access logs—were scrutinized to determine the suspect’s movement and activity,” said Dr Arpit Jain.
The accused, Deepak Kumar, was finally identified through careful tracking and interrogation.
Who Is Deepak Kumar?
Deepak Kumar, who was originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was working at Medanta for only five months. He was a Bachelor’s in Operation Theatre Technology from a private university and worked in the ICU, manning medical equipment.
Police explained that Kumar committed the attack in his line of duty, when the victim lay semi-conscious in the ICU. Initial interrogation indicates that he acted on his own during the attack.
Stunning Evidence of the Survivor
The air hostess told in her horrifying account that she was admitted to Medanta on April 5 after getting ill from a swim at her hotel. On April 6, she was shifted to the ICU and placed on ventilator support.
I was half-conscious and everything could be heard,” she added in her plea. “It was about 9 PM and two nurses attended to change clothes and bed linen. A guy entered and asked for my waistband size. I felt the hand creep beneath the sheet next — he sodomized me with his hand since I was at his mercy.
She went on to complain that two nurses were on duty at the time but did nothing, which casts a serious question over hospital policy and staff involvement.
Next Steps in the Case
Deepak Kumar will be brought before a magistrate on Saturday, where the police will file for his custodial remand for further interrogation. Investigators also await forensic reports to aid the legal process.
A complaint has been filed under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66 of the IT Act. Experts point out the case could initiate larger investigation into hospital staff screening, ICU monitoring, and patient safety measures.
The SIT included officers from several units, including:
-
ACP Sadar Yashwant Yadav
-
ACP (Crime Against Women) Dr Kavita
-
Sadar SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar
-
Women’s Police Station (West) SHO Inspector Geeta
-
