Hospital Staff Allegedly Sexually Assaults Air Hostess on Ventilator in Gurugram

46-Year-Old Victim Claims Assault Occurred While Unconscious and Under Medical Care, Prompting Police Investigation

Air Hostess Allegedly Sexually Assaulted by Hospital Staff While on Ventilator in Gurugram

In an unexpected turn of events, an air hostess has accused hospital staff of sexually assaulting her while she was on a ventilator at a private hospital in Gurugram, as per police reports. The 46-year-old victim, who was in Gurugram to undergo airline training, made the accusations after she was discharged from the hospital after a critical illness.

The incident was revealed when the victim lodged a complaint describing the alleged assault which happened when she was unconscious and attached to life support. She had originally fallen ill from almost drowning in a hotel swimming pool, resulting in her admission for urgent treatment. Following her deteriorating condition, she was shifted on April 6 to another private hospital in the Sadar area, where the alleged incident occurred.

The victim informed the police that while she was unconscious, she felt inappropriate physical contact from the hospital staff but could not react because of her critical condition. Upon discharge on April 13, she told her husband about the suspected assault and later called the emergency helpline, which resulted in the lodging of an official complaint at the Sadar police station with the assistance of their legal advisor.

Acting quickly on the complaint, Gurugram Police filed a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to sexual assault. A police official confirmed that an FIR was filed and a detailed probe is underway. “We are treating this case very seriously. Statements are being taken, questions are being asked from hospital staff, and CCTV camera footage from hospital premises is being checked,” the official said.

In reaction to the allegations, Medanta Hospital confirmed its full collaboration with the probe. One of the hospital representatives said, “At this juncture, no allegations have been corroborated, and all documents that pertain, including CCTV recordings from the hospital during the time under question, have been taken by the police.”

As the inquiry continues, public focus becomes increasingly focused on hospital protocols and patient safety when they are most vulnerable. The case does pose some serious questions about what measures are in place to safeguard patients and prevent this sort of thing from happening in hospitals.
