Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan, who has been in the United States to meet his fans at a meet-and-greet event, spoke about the early days of his acting career and how his director father, Rakesh Roshan, responded when he used to secretly audition for films prior to his actual debut.
During the New Jersey event, hosted by Sophie Choudry, Hrithik revealed candid insights about his early days in the film world. “My father used to say that I have to create my own life and shouldn’t hope that he will launch me because he is a director,” said the War actor.
Looking back on his self-doubt at the time, Hrithik conceded, “There was a time when I felt I am not worthy of a launch. I went to my friend Daboo Ratnani for a photo shoot and said that I would pay him later when I made money as an actor.” Determined to forge his own way, Hrithik went on to audition for films without his father’s approval, among them Shekhar Kapur’s unreleased project Ta Ra Rum Pum.
But when Rakesh Roshan found out that his son was secretly auditioning, he jumped into action. “He phoned me while I was at the audition and said, ‘Come back now. Don’t do such things,'” Hrithik remembered with a smile.
How Hrithik Finally Got His Big Break
In spite of his father’s strictness, Hrithik feels that Rakesh Roshan later felt deprived at the idea of another director launching his son. This thought prompted the production of Kaho Naa. Pyaar Hai (2000), a super hit at the box office which catapulted Hrithik to superstardom.
“I always take pride that I received an offer not from father Rakesh Roshan, but director Rakesh Roshan,” Hrithik revealed, highlighting the professionalism his dad had shown when launching him.
Hrithik Roshan Ready to Make Directorial Debut with Krrish 4
As Hrithik prepares to enter the next phase of his career, he opened up about his intentions to make his directorial debut with Krrish 4, the highly-awaited superhero sequel. Produced jointly by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Rakesh Roshan, the movie is likely to go on floors later this year.
“I am nervous but excited. I’ll need all the love and support from my fans for this new journey,” Hrithik shared, asking fans to stay tuned for more updates.
