Karnataka Man Arrested for Sexually Abusing and Impregnating Minor Daughter

A 51-year-old man from Karnataka’s Gadag district was arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting his teenage daughter, who turned pregnant as a result, according to police who reported the incidence on Wednesday.

The nauseating incident only came to public knowledge when on Monday, a 16-year-old girl had been brought into a hospital by her mother over complaints of having swollen legs. The medical examination revealed that she was already pregnant at 31 weeks.

When confronted by her mother regarding her health problems, the girl revealed that she had been continuously raped by her father for the last year. She said that the abuse took place when other members of the family were away from home, and she had been threatened with serious punishment if she ever reported the abuse.

Following the complaint filed by the mother at the Mulagund police station, authorities registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against the father under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso). The accused father was arrested on Tuesday.

Police authorities said that the girl has been given counseling and that a full medical examination is being conducted to decide the best course of action for her care and well-being. She now lives with her mother, a 20-year-old older sister who is a nurse, and a younger brother who remains in primary school.

A probe into the incident is being carried out as the authorities strive to provide the security and assistance required for the victim and her loved ones.
