Siemens Executive Killed In New York Helicopter Crash Visited India Last Month

Agustin Escobar, one of the senior Spanish executives at technology firm Siemens, was one of six individuals who were killed in a helicopter crash in New York on Thursday.

Agustin Escobar, the head of Siemens Spain, traveled to India weeks before he died in a plane crash in New York yesterday. In addition to Mr Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal and their 4-year-old, 5-year-old, and 11-year-old children died after their Bell 306 helicopter crashed into the Hudson River along Manhattan, media reports alleged.

Last month, Mr Escobar visited Siemens hubs in Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai, calling it an “inspiring week”.

“What an inspiring week meeting our brilliant teams in Bangalore, Pune, and Mumbai,” he posted on LinkedIn.

He added that he was impressed with the innovation taking place in his Indian hubs.

“From R&D labs to manufacturing floors, I saw innovation in action at every stop,” he said.

Mr Escobar pointed out various highlights, such as diving deep into future possibilities at the Siemens Bengaluru campus, discovering innovation at his Center of Excellence Engineering and R&D team at Pune, and interacting with his teams at Kalwa, Mumbai.

He stated that the highlight of his visit was meeting Siemens teams and was very inspired by his teams’ passion, energy and commitment to excellence.

“From town halls to group discussions, every dialogue demonstrated why India is the most important chapter in our story of global success,” he wrote.

Signing off on his note, he had a special acknowledgement for the Siemens India teams, whose visit rendered his trip such a memorable one. “Your passion to turn daily life upside down through purposeful technology is amazing!”

On Thursday, Mr Escobar’s helicopter departed from New York, and it disintegrated in mid-air before crashing into the Hudson River.
