Tearful man steals ex-girlfriend’s pet chicken; video of his arrest goes viral

In a bizarre case of love and distress, a man, 50, in the United States of America‘s Washington was arrested after he allegedly stole his former girlfriend‘s pet chicken, Polly. The case occurred on March 29 when the Kitsap County Sheriff‘s Office was called to a 911 report by a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had broken into her house and stolen her pet chicken.

The woman told the Miami Herald that her ex-boyfriend kicked in her back door to steal the chicken, and the sheriff‘s deputies moved quickly to apprehend him. The video, posted by the Kitsap County Sheriff‘s Office, captures the tearful moment the man was caught in the woods.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that the man repeatedly shouted, “I’ve got Polly” as he ran into the nearby woods with the chicken in his grasp. After a search, deputies found him crying in the bushes, still holding onto the bird.

“Don’t hurt my chicken,” the man pleaded as officers approached. In the bodycam footage later posted by the Sheriff’s Office on X, an officer is heard responding in a calm manner, “That’s fine. Just hold your chicken. I’m not gonna hurt your chicken.”

The man eventually obeyed the instructions of the officers and walked towards them, continuing to cry. The officers allowed him to put the chicken inside a patrol car. Once he had been arrested, they ensured that the chicken was returned to its owner.

Several social media users reacted to the video, with one commenting, “So this was over a breakup? Please tell me they don’t have kids together…. Could you imagine those “daddy issues”… ‘my dad fought for custody of the chicken but didn’t want us.’” Another user wrote, “It didn’t even get the chance to cross the road.”
