Counter terrorism operations have been launched in the area in response to the attack that officials believe killed at least 26 and injured many

A woman survivor of the Pahalgam terror attack recalled chilling moments of the attack and told that the attacker shot dead her husband but spared her to deliver a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Go tell this to Modi,” the woman quoted the assailant as saying.

26 individualsmost of whom were tourists, lost their lives and more than 20 were injured as unidentified attackers fired at civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region of Anantnag district on Tuesday.

The wife‘s husband, Manjunath Rao (47), who was from Karnataka’s Shivamogga, was killed during the attack as he had gone on vacation to the region. The individual had come to Kashmir along with his wife and his son.

Three of us – my husband, myself and our son – had gone to Kashmir. It occurred around 1.30 pm, I suppose. We were at Pahalgam. He passed away at the spot, in front of my eyes. It still feels like a bad dream,” Pallavi told India Today.

She also added that local civilians swarmed to rescue those who were injured. Citizens allegedly rushed their ponies to the attack location to rescue victims prior to the authorities officially initiating rescue efforts.

Describing the attack, Pallavi statedThree or four people attacked us. I told them – kill me too, you have already killed my husband. One of them said, I wont kill you. Go tell this to Modi.”

Responding to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir strongly. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured get well soon. All possible support is being given to the affected.

Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice.they will not be spared! Their nefarious agenda will never be successful. Our determination to combat terrorism is unbreakable, and it will become even stronger,” he added.

The Resistance Front (TRF)—a shadow group affiliated with the outlawed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—took responsibility for the attack. Officials quoted in a PTI report suspect that the militants could have entered from Kishtwar in Jammu and traveled to Baisaran through Kokernag in South Kashmir.
