Pune: Couple Jumps into Dam Water; Both Missing
Over the past few days, cases of altercations between couples turning violent have become quite frequent. In a fresh gruesome incident, a couple in the Pune district’s Ambegaon taluka is said to have leaped into the Dambe Dam water after a quarrel over a petty matter. Both are still missing as the search operations continue.

As per details furnished by local police, the accident took place in the early hours of Wednesday when Kavita Sunil Pardhi, Pappu Lakshman Khandagale, and Kavita’s 13-year-old niece Divya Rajaram Kale were on a motorcycle going to Thakarwadi in Takewadi. When they stopped near the left canal of the dam, there was an argument between Kavita and Pappu regarding some issue. In anger, Kavita entered the water, and Pappu too followed into the water in a bid to rescue her.

Divya Kale said that she thought both of them could swim and would surface shortly. But after a long disappearance, Divya became scared and ran into a shed nearby. She was subsequently found by resident Ramdas Bhimaji Chikhale, to whom she narrated the whole incident.

Subsequently, locals and police patil Ulhas Chikhale immediately reported the incident to the authorities. When they reached the spot, police searched the area and searched in a 7-8 kilometer radius of where the couple leaped but could not find them. The search has been hindered by the high water flow of the canal, which is now at 400 cubic seconds. Therefore, the Manchar police station has asked the tehsildar to lower the water flow in the canal.

The quarrel of the couple and what motivated them to take such extreme measures is a subject of debate among the surrounding community. Despite continued concern for their safety, there will be continued searches once the water recedes. The local community is left with a wave of fear.
