Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: A BTech student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Design Manufacturing (IIITDM) Jabalpur was apparently arrested by police on Monday after a complaint was made against her for recording her senior roommate in the bathroom of the institute’s hostel.

The suspected student, a second-year BTech student, was taken into custody after a fourth-year student of the same course registered a complaint at the institute on Sunday evening suspecting the hand of the juniorreports PTI news agency, citing police officials.

“A BTech secondyear girl student of Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing has been arrested after she was accused of recording her roommate in the institute’s hostel bathroom,” Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma said.

Following the complaint, the hostel warden carried out search of the mobile phones of all female inmates. In the course of the search, some objectionable videos, allegedly shot by the second-year student, were found by officials.

The student is being questioned now, and an FIR will be registered based on the investigation, the officer said.

What Students Alleged

A few students at the institute also lodged a different complaint at the Dumna police outpost, stating that a second-year girl student was making videos of her roommate in the bathroom, ASP Sharma said.

In-charge director Aparajita Ojha confirmed that the institute has constituted a three-member committee of professors to probe the allegations against the second-year student.

She said the authorities had received a complaint on Sunday evening from a fourth-year B-Tech student suspecting the junior student of making a video of her in the bathroom. “After receiving the complaint, the hostel warden immediately scanned the mobile phones of all the female inmates. While scanning, one or two bathroom videos were found on the second-year students phone,” Ojha said.

Dr. Ojha also added that the committee is currently examining the issue and appropriate action will be taken against the student. She also assured that the police had been informed of the incident.
