“Indian Armed Forces Remain on High Alert Following Pakistan’s Attack on Shambhu Temple, Jammu Civilians”

Pakistan's shelling and overnight drone attacks hit Shambhu Temple and residential colonies in Jammu; Indian Armed Forces remain on high alert following civilian casualties reported.

Jammu, May 10, 2025 — In an unprecedented upping of the ante of cross-border aggression, Pakistan attacked the holy Shambhu Temple and several residential clusters in Jammu late last night, for which a quick and sharp reaction from the Indian Armed Forces quickly followed. As per a release by the Ministry of Defence, various armed drones had been launched by Pakistan throughout the night, causing explosions that threatened both civilians and holy places.

Pakistan resumed its aggression on 10 May 2025 by attacking religious sites such as the renowned Shambhu Temple and residential complexes in Jammu. Several armed drones have been dispatched throughout the night, putting civilians and religious places at risk. The Indian Armed Forces are alert and dedicated to protecting the country’s sovereignty,” the Defence Ministry stated.

The new attack comes after a series of battles that have been waged over the last 48 hours, including a fierce artillery duel on Thursday. Significantly, Indian troops allegedly “neutralised” Pakistan’s Air Defence System in Lahore after Pakistani troops had opened an offensive in Poonch, itself following the counterterror operations of Operation Sindoor and the recent terror strike in Pahalgam.

With tensions running high, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah toured the affected areas of Rehari and Roopnagar, where the citizens woke up to find the residual damage of drone blasts and mortar firing. A house and some parked cars were damaged, while four civilians — Neeraj Gupta, his daughter Hitakshi Gupta, Vineet, and Rajinder Kumar — were injured in Rehari, officials said.

Visited Rehari and Roopnagar in Jammu today to witness the destruction caused by the recent shelling. The agony and disruption experienced by the locals is of grave concern. We stand with all the affected families and will ensure all support is made available without any delay,” the Chief Minister tweeted on X.

Adding to the tragedy, Additional District Development Commissioner Sh. Raj Kumar Thapa was killed in Rajouri when a Pakistani shell struck his residence. “Devastating news from Rajouri,” CM Omar wrote. “We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services… I’ve no words to express my shock and sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace.”

Blast-like noises and air raid sirens echoed throughout Jammu city as locals took shelter from the resumed hostilities. Security forces have since stepped up monitoring and anti-drone operations along the border, reiterating India’s commitment to safeguard its citizens and national sovereignty.

As diplomatic avenues strained and civilian lives threatened, the tensions continue. The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its pledge to “resolute and proportionate” action to defend the country from ongoing provocations.
