Major General Kartik C Seshadri States India Expected Retaliation and Successfully Intercepted Threats to Golden Temple in Amritsar

Pakistani Army Targets Golden Temple in Amritsar as Retaliation to Indian Attacks on Terror Targets

In a dramatic escalation, Pakistani troops carried out a coordinated drone and long-range missile attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar in the wee hours of May 8, as per Indian Army sources. The attack was said to have been launched in response to India’s recent raids on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as a revenge for a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 civilians.

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding the 15th Infantry Division, assured that India had expected such a retaliatory attack and had taken elaborate precautions to secure vital locations, including the Golden Temple. “Given the fact that the Pakistan Army has no legitimate military targets, we hoped they might hit civilian and religious facilities in India,” he saidAnd of these, the Golden Temple was the most likely target.”

The Indian Army also deployed more contemporary air defense arms such as the AKASH missile system and L-70 Air Defence Guns to deliver an integrated canopy of security around the holy site.”We were all set because we had expected this, and our combat-ready army air defense gunners foiled Pakistan Army’s evil plans by destroying all drones and missiles launched against the Golden Temple,” Major General Seshadri further said.

Pakistan opened a massive aerial attack with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and long-range missiles under the cover of night, officials said. The attack hit several cities and military installations in northern India, including Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and Bhuj. There were also explosions heard all over Kashmir, which showed the extent of the onslaught.

The Indian Army’s joint counter-UAS grid and air defense systems effectively intercepted and neutralized the incoming threats. A confirmation by the defense ministry asserted that the threat was neutralized in real-time without allowing any damage to the Golden Temple or civilian infrastructure.

India’s military also performed a demonstration drill to demonstrate the ways in which their advanced air defense systems intercepted incoming Pakistani drones and missiles effectively, highlighting their preparedness and ability to safeguard key national and religious monuments.

This strike comes after Operation Sindoor, a pinpointed military operation by India on nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. The operation was launched as a retaliation of the Pahalgam terror attack, the biggest step so far of India’s on-going endeavors against cross-border terrorism.

The event has raised tensions between India and Pakistan, the two nuclear-capable neighbors, and highlights the unstable security climate between the two countries along the Indo-Pakistani border. Indian leaders reaffirmed their resolve to protect national sovereignty and religious institutions while warning Pakistan against the repercussions of such act of provocation.
