Karnataka Sees Surge in Covid-19 Infections, Public Warned to Take Precautions

Bengaluru, May 25 — The Karnataka government recently came out with a new advisory following a consistent spike in Covid-19 cases in the state, with 35 active cases seen till now this year. Bengaluru has 32 cases, and officials have asked for greater caution and observance of Covid-appropriate behaviour (CAB).

In a formal statement issued on Friday, the government drew attention to a consistent increase in Covid-19 cases during the last 20 days. Although there have been no reported deaths in 2025, authorities pinpointed the need for precautionary measures, especially among vulnerable groups like pregnant women, children, patients with co-morbidities, and those with compromised immunity. These individuals have been specifically recommended to use face masks in public places. The advisory also called upon the public to practice hand hygiene and apply hand sanitizers frequently to limit the transmission of the virus.

Public health officials emphasized that patients showing signs of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) need to be tested for Covid-19 as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment are important in a bid to avoid possible outbreaks and provide safety to the public.

Coupled with the worry, a nine-month-old boy from Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district tested positive for Covid-19, one of the recent cases driving the spike in infections. The baby was tested positive on May 22 via Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and was shifted from a private hospital to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya, a government facility in Bengaluru. Authorities confirmed that the child is stable and receiving the right kind of medical attention.

This follows after Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that the state had 16 active Covid-19 cases as of May 21. Across the country, India had a total of 257 active cases as of May 19, as per official statistics.

The health department has reiterated that while the situation currently seems to be under control, there needs to be continued caution and observance of health guidelines in order to avoid further spread of Covid-19 in the state.
