Mumbai Man Loses Hand in Horrific Bike-Bus Collision in Andheri
35-year-old Ismail Suratwala severely injured after his bike collided with a BEST bus in Andheri; left hand severed under bus wheel, case under investigation.

Mumbai, May 2:
A 35-year-old man sustained a grievous injury after his left hand was severed in a tragic road accident involving a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run bus in Mumbai’s Andheri on Friday morning.
The victim, Ismail Suratwala, a Mohammed Ali Road resident, was driving his two-wheeler at 9:30 AM when the accident took place. The police say that Suratwala had emerged from a by-lane while his motorcycle hit the back of a BEST bus at a traffic signal. He lost balance and got thrown from his motorcycle due to the collision, while his left hand got crushed between the rear wheel of the speeding bus.
A police official at the MIDC police station elaborated, “When the bus was approaching the signal, Mr. Suratwala suddenly came on the main road from a side lane and ran into the bus. He lost balance, fell, and got his hand stuck under the wheel, causing a severe injury.”
Suratwala was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital straight away, where he is receiving treatment. His health is still critical, but doctors are keeping a close eye on him.
Police have taken possession of the bus, which was plying on a west-lease contract obtained from private operators. The bus is at present stationed at the MIDC police station while the authorities go through the formality of registering a case.
The accident has raised new questions about road safety and the risk of sudden entry into lanes, particularly in crowded traffic areas such as Andheri. The police are urging people to drive carefully when entering intersections and lanes that are prone to blind spots.
The incident is still being investigated.
