Cybercrime Police Arrest 45 in Nationwide Crackdown on Online Fraud

The Cyberabad police have arrested 45 individuals in 25 cybercrime cases between July 1 and 22. 17 of the 45 were linked to trading fraud schemes, while nine were arrested for operating an illegal call centre that defrauded citizens in India and the US. All nine accused, natives of West Bengal, were remanded to judicial custody. The investigation also revealed various types of cyber fraud, including part-time job scams, matrimony fraud, business fraud, vishing, fake customer care services, and digital arrest scams. Police seized various items used in the crimes. Additionally, the police secured 153 refund orders from court in 40 cases, amounting to ₹99.14 lakh, to be returned to victims. The Cyberabad police department highlighted their ongoing efforts to combat the growing tide of cyber fraud by conducting fast investigations and boosting public awareness of the issue.They advised people to use caution when interacting online, particularly when they receive unsolicited offers. Additionally, officials suggested confirming identities before disclosing financial or personal information to strangers. Authorities reaffirmed their determination to track down and take down fraud networks that operate across national and state lines. The police’s commitment to safeguarding internet users is demonstrated by the recent arrests and recoveries. Through official helplines, citizens are urged to report suspicious activity right away, facilitating speedier action and shielding innocent victims from additional financial losses.
