For about a week, the gang had been staying at a nearby hotel while organizing cyberfraud schemes that took advantage of the personal documents of the villagers. The accused gained access to victims’ bank accounts and siphoned off money using forged Aadhaar cards and other identity credentials. The money was then transferred to a central kingpin via cash deposit machines (CDMs).
Twenty-five ATM cards, ten bank passbooks, five checkbooks, eight Aadhaar cards, multiple PAN cards, six smartphones, three motorcycles, one car, and ₹30,000 in cash were among the many pieces of incriminating evidence that police seized during the raid.
The size of the haul highlights how well-planned the scam was.
SP Kumar commended the Town police station’s SHO for their promptness and commitment in resolving the case. In relation to the scam, two different FIRs have been filed, and investigations are still underway to find and capture additional ring associates. The eight suspects who were arrested have all been placed under judicial custody on remand.
This case demonstrates the ongoing danger posed by cybercriminal networks that prey on vulnerable communities in rural Maharashtra and Bihar by using sophisticated identity fraud. Authorities have emphasized that residents must maintain their vigilance, protect their private documents, and notify the local police or cybercrime units right away if they notice any suspicious activity.
