On CCTV, NRI Shot At In Front Of His Family In Amritsar

The wife and minor children of Sukhchain Singh, who is an American resident, were present in the room when he was attacked, as per the CCTV footage. His family could be seen pleading to the attackers with folded hands

A non-resident Indian (NRI) was fired at by armed assailants at his residence on the outskirts of Amritsar in Punjab today. The unidentified assailants entered his house and fired three bullets at him in front of his family members. The attack was recorded on CCTV.

The CCTV footage revealed his wife and younger children were inside the room where Sukhchain Singh, a US resident, was assaulted. His relatives could be seen begging the assailants with folded hands.

Mr Singh was accosted by the assailants who requested him to go into a room in his residence at Daburji village They demanded ransom from him. When he refused, they shot him. The bullets struck him on the head and close to the chest. He was taken to an Amritsar hospital with serious injuries.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav directing the Police Commissioner of Amritsar to make sure that the attackers are arrested quickly.

Special DGP Rajender Dhoke, who has also been tasked with monitoring the investigation, is likely to reach Amritsar later today. The police are actively working on leads from the CCTV footage as they go all out in their hunt for the culprits.

In reaction to the incident, Shiromani Akali Dal spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Punjab. “It is no coincidence that the Punjab chief minister has to stand behind a bullet-proof shielding glass while addressing people. Today’s incident proves gangsters are still running amok in Punjab,” he stated. He blamed the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann for today’s incident and called for his resignation.

Sukhchain Singh had come back from the US around a month back and was involved in the acquisition of a hotel and a luxury car.
