Bomb Scare: Jaipur-Mumbai Flight Makes Emergency Landing

As part of standard safety procedure, the crew promptly alerted air traffic control, triggering emergency protocols

An IndiGo flight from Jaipur to Mumbai was forced to land under full emergency procedure at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday night after an on-board bomb threat, airport officials said.

IndiGo Flight 6E 5324, traveling from Jaipur to Mumbai, landed safely at CSMIA at about 8:50 PM after a bomb threat message was found in one of the toilets of the aircraft while it was airborne. The incident made the flight crew inform air traffic control immediately as per standard safety procedure.

Authorities announced a complete emergency at the airport at 8:43 PM, a matter of minutes before the plane landed. Emergency services such as bomb disposal units and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were dispatched to take charge of the situation.

On landing, the plane was directed to an isolated bay where it was extensively scanned by bomb detection and disposal units. Official sources state that nothing suspicious was found onboard.

As a precautionary measure, complete emergency was announced at Mumbai Airport at 20:43 hrs. The flight was landed safely at 20:50 hrs. Operations at the airport are unaffected. CSMIA is closely cooperating with the airline and security forces. Safety of passengers and crew is our primary concern,” an official statement made by a CSMIA spokesperson read.

The passengers and crew of the flight were evacuated safely after the check. Authorities are currently investigating the source and nature of the threatening message.

Routine operations at the Mumbai airport went on without any hitch despite the scare, with officials lauding the rapid coordination between air traffic control, emergency response teams, and the crew of the flight.
