Delhi Experiences Cloudy Skies and Light Rain Following Heatwave; IMD Predicts Similar Weather Conditions for April 11 and 12

Weather Update: Delhi Sees Light Rain as Bihar Faces Tragedy Due to Lightning Strikes
In a much-needed respite from the heatwave that gripped Delhi earlier this week, the national capital’s skies turned cloudy on Thursday, accompanied by light drizzle in some areas. However, some parts of the city still saw temperatures reach the 40-degree mark. Ridge and Ayanagar weather stations recorded respective maximum temperatures of 40.9 and 40.2 degrees Celsius, as per the met department. Safdarjung weather station too reported a highest temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius, which is 4.5 degrees more than the normal temperature at this time of the year. Minimum temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius was reported, a six-notch rise above average and highest April night temperature in six months.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the same kind of weather for Delhi during the weekend, with chances of a cloudy sky, thunderstorms, and light drizzle on April 11 and 12. Travelers are cautioned to be careful, as the predicted weather could lead to some traffic congestion, including the possibility of trees or branches falling. There could also be power cuts in some areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). Citizens are advised to monitor traffic conditions prior to going out and avoid staying near power lines, water bodies, and electrical conductors.
In the coming days, the IMD has predicted that the sky will remain cloudy with a slight possibility of light rain on April 13, albeit without the thunderstorms. On April 14 and 15, there will mainly be clear skies. Yet again, the weather could change around April 16, with forecasts of good surface winds during the day.
In a sharp contrast to Delhi weather, some areas in Bihar saw extreme weather conditions on Thursday, causing the unfortunate deaths of a minimum of 25 people through lightning strikes and hailstorms. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) indicated that 18 died in Nalanda, in addition to the number of deaths in Siwan, Katihar, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, and Jehanabad. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asserted through a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) that over 50 individuals had indeed lost their lives due to the extreme weather, condoling the bereaved families of the tragedy.
The unfortunate incidents in Bihar come a day after the report of 13 deaths resulting from lightning strikes. The weather department has issued alerts for heavy rains in multiple districts of Bihar, including Madhubani, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Gaya, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Nalanda, Nawada, and Patna.
As both areas cope with their respective weather conditions, citizens are being advised to be informed and on guard for the shifting conditions over the next several days.
