Ricky Rai, Son of Late Don Muthappa Rai, Shot at in Bengaluru

BENGALURU, April 19, 2025 — Ricky Rai, son of late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, was injured in a targeted gun attack early Saturday morning while travelling from his farmhouse in Bidadi to Bengaluru. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when an armed gang opened fire on his vehicle, injuring both him and his driver.

Both men have been admitted to a city hospital and are out of danger, according to sources. A large police contingent was seen at the scene of the crime, with top officials visiting the spot and ordering an investigation.

Police are screening CCTV images from along and around the Bidadi-Bengaluru stretch in an attempt to identify the assailants. Initial indications are that the attack could be the fallout of old rivalries in the state’s underworld.

“The way the attack is done and the circumstances under which it happens, it seems to be a pre-planned action of a rival gangster, probably for the purpose of giving a warning,” a top police officer told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Ricky Rai, who was booked in several criminal cases in Karnataka, is understood to have had rivalries with a number of infamous characters in the state’s underworld. Authorities say he had just returned to Bengaluru after living abroad for a while.

The city police have not made an official statement about the suspects or the motive behind the attack so far. Investigations continue.
