Rahul Gandhi Shortens U.S. Visit Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

Rahul Gandhi to join Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed at least 26 lives.

New Delhi, April 24, 2025: Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has cut short his trip to the United States in a quick reaction to the devastating  terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress leader is likely to return to New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday and will be present at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at 10:30 AM.

The development was confirmed by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh through a post on social media platform ‘X’. “Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi has abbreviated his U.S. trip and will be joining in person the CWC meeting in New Delhi tomorrow at 10:30 AM,” Mr. Ramesh wrote.

The move comes in the wake of a devastating terror strike in Pahalgam on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people. The incident has sent shockwaves across the nation and prompted senior leaders to alter their international engagements.

Rahul Gandhi’s move follows a similar course by other seniormost government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who also shortened their foreign trips—Saudi Arabia and the US, respectively—in the wake of the attack.

The CWC session is likely to discuss the prevailing security scenario, offer condolences to the victims, and debate the larger implications of the recent upsurge of violence in the Kashmir Valley.

More updates are expected as political leaders from across the spectrum are to take responses to the unfolding crisis.
