Hours After Hideout Bust, Pakistan Resorts to Unprovoked Firing Across LoC in Poonch and Nearby Sectors

Srinagar – Jammu and Kashmir security forces busted an underground hideout of terrorists in the Surankot region of Poonch district successfullyputting to waste what officials think was a major terror attack. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police jointly carried out the operation just weeks after the horrific Pahalgam massacre killed 26 civilians.

Five explosive devices, two wireless communication equipment, and three blankets were seized by the forces from the hideout, which were seen to be used recentlyAn operation to locate any terrorists present in the area or those who had escaped from the spot is still ongoing.

Poonch and the adjacent district of Rajouri are long-standing flashpoints, having experienced chain of terror raids and gunfights along with other such incidents in recent years. The operation once again brought to the fore the ongoing threat of terrorism in these areas.

Hours after the hideout was discovered, the Pakistan Army renewed “unprovoked” firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in various sectors. “On the night of 04-05 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in the areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor in J&K. Indian Army reacted promptly and proportionately,” the Indian Army stated in an official release.

This is the 11th consecutive day of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, further ratcheting up tensions along the LoC.

Security agencies have been in high alert mode since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the worst terror attack in the region since the abrogation of Article 370. The Indian authorities have directly attributed the attack to terrorist elements from across the Pakistan bordertriggering a sequence of diplomatic and policy measures.

In a bold move, New Delhi revoked all Pakistani nationals visas and directed existing Pakistani nationals to leave India promptlyIn addition, the Indus Waters Treaty, which both nations signed in 1960has been put on hold. Diplomatic relations between neighbours have also been loweredcapturing the sharp deceleration of bilateral relations.

In spite of the denial by Pakistan and its request for a “neutral probe,” India has held firm groundciting evidence linking the attackers to Pakistan-based groups.

With ongoing investigations and counter-terror operations, security personnel continue to keep a close eye on the Union territory, resolved to avert further dangers to civilian lives and national security.
