“Hollywood Being Devastated”: Trump Imposes 100% Tariff On Non-US Movies
Donald Trump, after being back at the White House since January, has initiated a trade war against China and has levied world tariffs.

New Delhi:
President Donald Trump on Monday announced a tariff of 100 per cent on foreign films, stating that the US film industry was “dying a very fast death”.
“Other nations are providing all kinds of incentives to lure our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other locations in the USA, are being destroyed. This is a coordinated effort by other nations and, as such, a National Security threat,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“It is, aside from all else, messaging and propaganda. Thus, I am directing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to move forward immediately to put a 100% Tariff on any and all films entering our country produced in other countries. WE WANT FILMS MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN,” Trump added.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick posted on X that they were “on it.“
It was not yet clear if the tariff would apply to production companies, foreign or US, making movies abroad.
Trump’s action comes about a month after China announced it would “moderately reduce” the amount of US movies it imported into China, as part of a trade war between the world’s two biggest economies.
“The US government’s indiscriminate tariffs on China are the wrong move and are sure to further lower the positive impression of domestic audiences towards American films,” an announcement by China’s film administration stated on April 10 after Trump increased tariffs on Chinese products to 125 per cent.
Trump, having returned to the White House in January, has launched a trade war against China and levied global tariffs which have shaken markets.
Excluding China, he has declared a suspension of his blanket tariffs placed on dozens of nations until July.
