RSS Attack On Colonel Sofiya Qureshi’s Residence? Karnataka Police Bust Fake Post

The X account that published the post is called "Anis Uddin" and the location specifies British Columbia, Canada

In the recent instance of cyber attacks meant to cause inconvenience in India during the current tensions with Pakistan, a post on X stated that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) supporters attacked the family residence of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi in Belagavi in Karnataka. The post was removed after police issued a warning.

The X profile that created the post is called “Anis Uddin” and location says British Columbia, Canada. The profile has 405 handles and 31 followers and the majority of posts are in support of Pakistan. The cover picture carries images of Pakistan’s first Governor-General Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Army chief General Asim Munir and other senior Pakistani defence officials.

“Demeaning attack on Muslim Indian Army officer’s family. Colonel Sophia Qureshi – newly appointed spokesperson of the Indian Army – is the latest victim of RSS-led hate. Her family house at Belagavi, Karnataka, was reportedly attacked,” it said. It also included a picture of a vandalized room with items scattered everywhere.

The moment police saw the post, a squad was sent to Colonel Qureshi’s residence in Belagavi’s Gokak and everything was normal. Dr Bheemashankar S Guled, Belagavi Superintendent of Police, responded to the post, “This is a fake news. As SP of the Belagavi, I would like to warn the persons involved in creating this post, which is fake, to delete it immediately.” The post was deleted.

As a precautionary measure, police have arranged security at the residence of the senior Army officer.

Colonel Qureshi was born in Vadodara in Gujarat. She is married to Colonel Tajuddin Bagewadi from Belagavi. Colonel Qureshi’s in-laws reside at the Belagavi house and she frequently visits them.

The government’s press briefing face during the tense days following India’s airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack is now a familiar name nationwide, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. A war-decorated officer, she has become a source of inspiration among women, as has Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who also figures in the briefings.

BJP stalwart BL Santhosh has written on X, “In 7 days, she is a icon for (the) young generation. Not only by press briefing but by her life and legacy of her family. Daughter of Vadodara, daughter-in-law of Belagavi, Pride of Bharat.”

The fake news about Colonel Qureshi comes as a deluge of cyber attacks by Pakistan-friendly hackers. As per a PTI report, Maharashtra cyber crime police have identified seven groups that were behind the over 15 lakh cyber attacks on critical infrastructure websites in India following the Pahalgam attack. Just 150 of these attacks were successful, officials claim. In a report titled “Road of Sindoor“, the Maharashtra cyber agency has outlined the cyber warfare initiated by Pakistan-aligned groups. These organizations employed a range of techniques, such as malware campaigns, Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, and GPS spoofing. Indian defense-linked websites were also defaced.

Bits of information that were circulated during this war are that India’s power grid was attacked by cyber attacks, there were statewide blackouts, satellite jamming and there was an attack on a BrahMos missile storage facility, a top official revealed.
