Kerala Man Kills Woman’s Brother in Front of Parents After Breakup, Dies by Suicide
Police: Accused and Victim’s Sister Were Former Classmates in Higher Secondary and Engineering Kollam, Kerala – A 23-year-old man allegedly murdered his estranged partner’s brother in front of the latter’s parents in Kerala’s Kollam city before dying by suicide, police said.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), Thejas Raj was not pleased with his former lover’s family since she dumped him and her family fixed her marriage with another guy.
Around 7 PM on Monday, Raj visited the woman’s residence in the Uliyakovi locality of Kollam and attacked 21-year-old Febin George Gomez to death. Febin’s dad, George, was also beaten up during the attack.
After the incident, Raj, dressed in black clothing that covered part of his face, drove his vehicle about 3 km, stopped by the railway tracks, and committed suicide. Police found bottles of petrol in his vehicle.
Background of the Accused
Raj was the son of a sub-inspector of police and had been studying with Febin’s sister for three years. They had studied higher secondary and engineering classes together in the same institute.
“Despite both of them belonging to different communities, their families weren’t opposed to their relationship.”. At the same time, the woman secured a job in a prominent bank, but Thejas Raj, having cleared the written examination for a police constable position, could not clear the physical test. This made him despondent, and the woman is reported to have lost interest in the relationship. The woman’s family also kept him at bay after she had decided to call off the affair. This appears to be the motive for the murder,” the police officer added.
Attack and Aftermath
Febin’s mother, quoted in the FIR, accused Raj of nursing a grudge against their family when they arranged the marriage of their daughter to another man. She stated that Raj had come to their house with the intention of killing both parents and Febin.
On Monday night, Raj initially stabbed Febin’s father, George, after a short argument before attacking Febin. CCTV captured Febin fleeing the house after being stabbed, collapsing on the sidewalk. Residents took him to the hospital in hurry, but he died due to injuries.
Police Investigation
After the attack, police initiated a manhunt for the black-suited suspect. Shortly after, they were notified of a man dressed in similar attire who had taken his own life in a nearby location. When they investigated, they found that it was indeed Raj.
Febin, who is a student, had been toiling as a part-time delivery man, while his father George works as a hospital driver in Kollam. Officials confirmed that George is no longer in danger.
Police are still probing the case, and the incident has revived debates regarding mental health and relationships in society.
