Mumbai Dog Attack: Woman Undergoes Surgery After Brutal Pitbull and Doberman Attack in Powai

37-Year-Old Scientist Survives Brutal Attack, Receives Urgent Medical Care After Pitbull and Doberman Assault in Powai

Mumbai Dog Attack: Scientist Seriously Injured by Pitbull and Doberman Attack

It was a day of horror for a 37-year-old research scientist who fell victim to the attack of two pet dogs belonging to a Mumbai resident in Powai on March 22. The woman, Richa Kaushik-Arora, was brutally assaulted by the two pet dogs. She suffered severe injuries and was compelled to get her nose reconstructed after the incident.

The accident took place when Richa was going towards her apartment in Jal Vayu Vihar, which is under renovation. The two dogs, a Pitbull and a Doberman, were being taken care of by Divesh Virk’s driver and domestic maid, who arrived in a vehicle. The maid lost the hold on the leashes, and the dogs attacked Richa and lashed at her face, nose, hands, and legs.

Richa was immediately taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment after the attack, courtesy of a shocked neighbor and her father-in-law. She underwent surgery to give her nose a rebirth because of the severity of the injuries the dogs had left on her.

After the incident, the Powai police were informed and arrived quickly on the spot. The driver, the maid, and the dog owner, Divesh Virk, were booked in a case based on a complaint lodged by Richa. The case of attack investigation is still ongoing.

This case brings to light the emerging issues of dangerous dog breeds in India, that is, Pitbulls and Dobermans. The Pitbull Terrier, being powerful and aggressive in nature, has been responsible for a number of aggressive attacks, especially when not trained properly or treated cruelly. Therefore, most areas have put in place controls or bans on keeping such breeds in order to maintain public safety.

Likewise, Dobermans are famous for their guarding nature and loyalty. Yet, if not trained well, they will become ferocious in what they perceive as threatening circumstances, particularly towards strangers.

While communities struggle to come to terms with the consequences of keeping potentially hazardous breeds as pets, this accident is a chilling reminder of the role dog owners play in providing for the safety of their animals and the community at large
