NEET Aspirant Commits Suicide In Rajasthan’s Kota, 9th Such Incident This Year

This is the ninth case of suspected suicide of a coaching student in Kota since January.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Kota:

A 17-year-old medical aspirant is suspected to have hung himself from an iron rod in his hostel room in Kota’s Jawahar Nagar area on Tuesday, according to police.

Harshraj Shankar, who belonged to Nalanda district in Bihar, had been coaching for the medical entrance exam since last April at a coaching institute here, they said.

After being told by the caretaker of the hostel that this afternoon the boy had locked the door from within and was not answering, a police team arrived at the location, Jawahar Nagar SHO Ramlaxman. The team smashed open the door of the room and discovered the boy hanging to an iron rod, he said.

The hostel room ceiling fan had “anti-suicide devise installedThus, the NEET candidate set up an iron rod to hang himself, the police added.

No suicide note was found at the location, the SHO informedand the body has been moved to a hospital mortuary where a post-mortem would be done after the arrival of his parents who have been alerted.

An investigation is in progress.

This is the ninth student suicide of the year that occurred in the city renowned for being a coaching center. Six coaching students — five JEE, one NEET — took their own lives in January alone.

Seventeen coaching students committed suicide in Kota in 2024.
