Stating that minorities felt the most secure in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that a Muslim family would be safe amidst a hundred Hindu families but not the other way around. In an ANI podcast, Adityanath, nonetheless, stated that 50 Hindus could not feel secure amid 100 Muslim families and quoted the situation in Bangladesh where various attacks on minorities and temples have happened over the past few months.
“A Muslim household is the safest among a hundred Hindu households. They will enjoy the liberty of performing all their religious acts. But can 50 Hindus remain safe among 100 Muslim households? No. Bangladesh is one example. And before this, Pakistan was an example,” BJP’s firebrand leader said.
Ever since the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh fell in August last year, Hindus have been targeted, and even priests have been arrested.Minority houses have been looted, and over 150 temples have been defiled by Islamic extremists.
Adityanath, whose eight-year rule ended this week, emphasized that communal riots in Uttar Pradesh had ceased since the BJP took power in 2017. He also emphasized that as a Yogi, he wanted “everyone’s happiness.”
“Muslims are the safest in Uttar Pradesh.”. If Hindus are safe, then they are safe too. If Hindu shops were on fire here in UP prior to 2017, if Hindu houses were on fire, then Muslim shops and Muslim houses were also on fire. And after 2017, there were no riots,” he claimed.
On temple-mosque conflicts emerging in a number of states, Adityanath raised doubts over the establishment of mosques on “Hindu sites,” saying it was against Islamic tenets.
He added that the government would reopen as many temples as there are in Sambhal, where there was extensive violence last year when a court-ordered inspection of the Shahi Jama Masjid was underway. The violence claimed five lives.
“There are 64 pilgrimage centres in Sambhal, and we have discovered 54. We will discover it whatever it is. We will make the world see, what happened in Sambhal?,” Adityanath said
