Himachal Pradesh Cracks Down on Security Precautions After Pahalgam Terror Attack
Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the death of 26 tourists, the Himachal Pradesh Police has increased security arrangements throughout the state, particularly in the Chamba and Kangra districts along the border with Jammu and Kashmir. The state government has declared a high alert to secure the safety of locals and tourists.
Describing the attack as a “cowardly act,” Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu summoned a meeting on Wednesday, ordering police officers to remain extra vigilant at the state’s borders. “When something like this happens, there certainly is an alert. I have ordered police personnel to increase their activities on the borders bordering Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Sukhu condemned the terrorist attack in strong words, saying that such incidents are unacceptable in any decent society and that anti-social forces had to be tackled firmly.Sukhu has demanded swift action against the attackers of the attack and ordered an investigation into the lapses that resulted in the attack, especially as the victims were mostly tourists. “The security lapse should be investigated.” The Home Minister also has come to assess the incident, “he said.”.
Conveying deep condolence to the victims and families, Sukhu said, “Our hearts are with the victims and their families in this really agonizing hour. We remain steadfastly one with the victims’ families as well as all the people afflicted by this uncivilized action.”
The assault has been roundly condemned by several political leaders. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla described the attack as cowardly, saying, “It is cruel how helpless people were killed. I think this is their cruelty, and they are not human.”
State Congress President and former MP Pratibha Singh reacted to the attack with grief, reiterating that “no terrorist or separatist involved in this attack should be spared at any cost.” She demanded a tight security system to avert any such incidents in the future.
Senior BJP leader and Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur characterized the attack as “inhuman,” calling it a heinous act that does not only stain humanity but aims to destroy peace and goodwill as well. “Such cruelty can never be allowed in any civilized society,” he claimed.
In his remarks, BJP President Rajiv Bindal vowed that “the perpetrators will not be spared at any cost. We will eliminate them. We will not allow the sacrifice of our innocent citizens to go in vain. The terrorists and their sympathizers will be made to pay for every drop of blood that has spilled from their bodies.”
In a display of unity against the attack, traders in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district, organized a protest by closing their markets till 1 PM on Wednesday. They conducted a rally calling for stringent action against the terrorists. The same was done in Shimla, where the community called for justice.
BJP co-incharge Sanjay Tandon participated in the protest, stating, “This cowardly terrorist attack on innocent civilians is an attack on humanity, which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”
The increased security presence and reactions from the community indicate a shared determination to maintain safety and denounce violence in all its manifestations as the state struggles with the consequences of this horrific incident.
