Who was Om Prakash, former Karnataka DGP who was found dead at his Bengaluru home?

Om Prakash was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1981 batch. He hailed from Bihar's Champaran district.

Former Karnataka director general of police (DGP) Om Prakash’s suspicious death has shocked the state. His body was discovered with injuries and found in his house, PTI said.

The body was found in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storeyed residence in the high-end HSR Layout in Bengaluru.

It appears a sharp object was used, where so much bleeding occurred that resulted in death,” additional commissioner of police (ACP) East Vikas Kumar explained to ANI.

Kumar said the reason for the killing is still uncertain and no arrest has been made so far.

Police have already started questioning Prakash’s wife and daughter for the crime.

ACP Kumar further said, “Once the case is registered, a thorough investigation will be conducted. At this moment, there are no arrests. Preliminary investigation indicates that the things may be of an internal nature.”

Who was Om Prakash?

Om Prakash was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1981 batch. He was a Bihar’s Champaran native.

Prakash was a postgraduate in Geology. He was appointed Karnataka’s Director General of Police (DGP) on March 1, 2015, and retired after two years

The IPS officer started his service as an additional superintendent of police in Harapanahalli.

Prakash also worked as ASP in Ballari district and as superintendent of police (SP) in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru.

He worked as state Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services and Crime Investigation Department (CID).

A PTI report quotes that the retired DGP had already told some close associates about threats to his life before this incident occurred.

Police are suspecting involvement of a close family member. It has been learned that there had been some family property disputes.
