Use of Social Media in poltics

Social media has highly impacted the political landscape, enabling direct communication between leaders and the public

Social media has highly impacted the political landscape, enabling direct communication between leaders and the public, bypassing traditional media. Platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram allow politicians to share their views instantly and campaigns to go viral, giving voters real-time updates, which leads to shaping opinions. Politicians use social media to craft their public image, set a narrative, build a loyal following, and mobilize supporters quickly. Livestreams, Q&A sessions, and polls create two-way communication, increasing public approval and rallying support before debates, elections, or major decisions.

But social media in politics also presents challenges, such as the spread of misinformation, the potential for fake news and manipulated content, the creation of echo chambers by algorithms, online harassment, and threats from foreign interference and political bots. Despite these challenges, social media remains a powerful political tool, democratizing political participation by giving a voice to individuals and grassroots movements. Activists use it to organize protests, raise awareness, and influence policy, while voters can hold leaders accountable through viral content and trending campaigns. In previous elections social media emerged as a strong tool for political campaigning. Nowadays we are seeing that even bigger political parties are using social media for their campaigning and engaging in meme wars. This has made politics in the world more interesting; now citizens are not bound to discuss and comment among peer groups, but directly they can give their opinions. This new wave of social media in politics has really changed the scenario, and everyone is enjoying it and actively participating in this shift change of politics.
