Maharashtra Greenlights Rs 837 Crore Cyber Safety Project To Strengthen Online Security

Mumbai: In a major push to curb the growing threat of cybercrime, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Rs 837 crore cyber safety project aimed at strengthening digital security across the state.

With cyber fraud and online scams rising at a worrying pace, the state government said this project will bring together advanced technologies and expert manpower under one unified system. The initiative includes the setup of a modern control and command centre, technology-driven investigation tools, a centre of excellence to enhance expertise, a Computer Emergency Response Team, a cloud-based data hub, and a dedicated security operations centre.

To make help more accessible, a 24×7 complaint helpline will be launched, where citizens facing cyber fraud can reach out anytime for assistance. Officials said this step is expected to reduce response time and ensure quicker action for victims seeking support.

According to the government’s statement, the project will empower cyber investigators with cutting-edge tools and proper training, improving case detection and increasing conviction rates. The focus is not only on solving crimes but also on preventing them through stronger digital monitoring.

Alongside this cyber initiative, the Cabinet also approved relief measures for sugar cooperative factories struggling financially. These factories will now be able to secure loans from state cooperative banks, backed by government assurance, helping protect livelihoods in rural sectors.

The decisions mark the state’s dual focus on public safety and economic stability, ensuring communities remain protected both online and offline.
