Following their arrest on suspicion of murdering merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput in Meerut on Wednesday, police detain his wife Muskaan and her lover Sahil Shukla.
Updates on the murders in Meerut: The murder of a merchant navy officer in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, is revealing graphic details. Muskaan Rastogi, the wife of Saurabh Rajput, was accused of planning the crime since November and even preparing by acquiring sedatives and knives.
On February 24, 29-year-old Saurabh Rajput, a former merchant navy officer, came home from London to celebrate his wife’s and daughter’s birthdays. A little more than a week later, he was the victim of a terrifying conspiracy in which his body was dismembered and placed inside a drum sealed in cement.
Sahil Shukla, Muskaan’s 25-year-old lover, is accused of helping her.
Police claim that the two carefully planned the murder, scouting disposal sites and buying sedatives and weapons. According to news agency PTI, their relationship swiftly turned into an affair after being rekindled in 2019 through a school WhatsApp group.
Muskaan eventually planned to divorce Saurabh and wed Sahil as a result of the affair. According to police sources, Muskaan and Sahil chose to kill Saurabh because they saw him as a barrier to their relationship.
Muskaan Rastogi is said to have devised the murderous scheme.
According to an NDTV report, Saurabh Rajput’s wife Muskaan Rastogi devised the murderous scheme after persuading her boyfriend Sahil Shukla that his mother was communicating with him via Snapchat from the afterlife.
She allegedly persuaded her boyfriend to assist her in killing Saurabh by telling him that her mother had reincarnated and was corresponding with him via Snapchat.
The two started getting ready to carry out the plan by February, when Saurabh was due to return to India.
“Muskaan told the storekeeper she would use the two long-bladed knives she bought to cut chicken. According to a source cited in the PTI report, she also pretended to be anxious in order to obtain prohibited sedatives from a nearby pharmacy.
Two attempts at murder
On February 25, the pair’s initial attempt at the murder was unsuccessful. Saurabh, who had only returned a day before, ate food that had been laced with sedatives but only fell asleep soundly.
However, Muskaan drugged her husband’s food once more on March 4, making him unconscious. She then assisted Sahil in killing Saurabh by stabbing him. In an effort to hide the crime, the two then dismembered his body. Prior to the murder, Muskaan’s six-year-old daughter had already been sent to her grandmother’s home.
“The two ultimately chose to keep the body parts inside a big blue drum, filling it with cement and sand, instead of disposing of them in a remote area as originally planned,” Ayush Meerut SP.
The police are also looking into a possible drug connection, alleging that Muskaan became addicted to Gaanja thanks to Sahil.
In an effort to hide their identities, the two went to Himachal Pradesh after the murder and returned to Meerut on March 17. The police arrested the two on suspicion the very next day after receiving a complaint from Saurabh’s family.
When the blue drum containing Saurabh’s mutilated body was found inside the house, they were taken into custody.
Both of the accused have been placed under 14 days of judicial custody by this court. A group of attorneys surrounded the couple during their Wednesday court appearance, trying to hit them and seize Sahil’s clothing.
Police officers found it difficult to keep the peace and protect the accused in the midst of the mayhem.
Kavita and Pramod Rastogi, Muskan Rastogi’s parents, expressed shock and disbelief over their daughter’s involvement in the murder and asked for the death penalty for her.
Although the Rastogi family acknowledged that Muskan and Saurabh had never been on good terms, they blamed Sahil specifically for introducing Muskan to drugs.
Muskan’s father was especially outspoken in his condemnation, calling for Muskan and her lover to be executed.
“Saurabh sacrificed everything for Muskan, including his family and career. However, she ultimately killed him. Muskan is no longer entitled to life. He was quoted by PTI as saying, “A person like that doesn’t deserve to live.”
