Man Who Allegedly Provided Support To Terrorists In J&K Throws Self Into River, Drowns

Security forces have deplored people who are misleading others regarding the incident

One man who had provided food and shelter to the terrorists in Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir threw himself into a river after jumping over it to run away from security forces.

A video shot from a vantage point captures the man, Imitiaz Ahmad Magray, 23, jumping into the stone-lined river suddenly after briefly surveying the forested terrain.

Magray was arrested by the police on Saturday, said sourcesWhile being questioned, he informed the police that he provided food and logistics to terrorists who were covering themselves in the forest in Tangmarg in Kulgamsaid sources.

The suspect agreed to take the security troops to the hideout of the terrorists, sources added.

On Sunday morning, while taking a joint team of the police and the army to raid the hideout, Magray in an attempt to escape jumped into the Veshaw River, sources added.

The moment of his escape also came on video. There was no one around him when he decided to make a run.

The man was attempting to swim, but the powerful current swept him off course and he drowned. The whole sequence of events was caught on tape.

The security forces have denounced those who are propagating false information about the accident, sources indicated. The security forces should not be blamed for the tragic death of the man wrongly, sources indicated.

Earlier on Sunday, former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti accused conspiracy in the killing of Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray.

Another body has been retrieved from the river in Kulgam with serious allegations said to be of foul play. The local people complain that Imtiyaz Magray said to be picked up by the army two days ago and now his body has turned up in the river said Ms Mufti in a tweet on X.

The local citizen was not caught for the first time distributing food and logistics to cross-border terrorists.“.
