Thane Man Arrested for Killing 75-Year-Old Woman, Attacking Her 97-Year-Old Mother
Thane: In a shocking incident in Thane, a 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 75-year-old woman, attacking her 97-year-old mother, and stealing jewellery from their farmhouse, police said on Saturday.
The tragedy unfolded during the night of August 18–19 at the victims’ farmhouse in Gandulwad village, Shahapur taluka. The accused has been identified as Shivaji Balvant Dhasade.
According to officials, the attacker entered the farmhouse along with some unidentified men and assaulted the mother-daughter duo. Veena Daulataram Harpalani (75) succumbed to her injuries after being struck with a hard object, while her 97-year-old mother, Laxmi Narayandas Dalvani, was seriously hurt.
The woman’s brother filed a complaint, leading the Khinavli police to register a case on August 19, 2025, under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and house trespass.
Police, assisted by the local crime branch, questioned workers and villagers, and based on intelligence and technical inputs, they detained Dhasade. During questioning, he admitted his involvement in the crime.
Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine whether anyone else was involved in the attack.
