Navi Mumbai Airport Handles Close to 10,000 Travellers Within 48 Hours of Launch
The recently opened Navi Mumbai International Airport is receiving a good response in terms of passenger traffic in the first two days of flights

Early Operations Mark Promising Start
The newly established Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has made a commendable beginning, registering close to 10,000 passengers in the first two operational days. This development not only depicts increasing faith in this new airport, but it can prove to be an effective reliever to already congested airports in Mumbai.
On December 25, the number of passengers handled by the airport stood at 4,922 passengers, of which 2,278 were arrival passengers and 2,644 departed. This marked the start of scheduled commercial flights operation on the first day of Christmas travel.
The authorities noted that there has been a marked growth in the level of occupation once the regular flights began. The load factors increased from the pre-launch figures to 85% for the incoming services, which is quite impressive, while for the outgoing services, the load factor touched 98%.
Consistent Growth and Expansion Plans
This trend continued on December 26, as NMIA catered to a total of 5,028 passengers, bringing the cumulative number for the past two days nearly to the 10,000 mark. The traffic performance was encouraging, as claimed by airport authorities, as it surpassed initial estimates for a new airport.
At this time, the operational schedule for flights at the airport is from 8 am to 8 pm, with an estimated 23 departure flights in a day and the ability to handle as many as 10 aircraft per hour.
As of February 2026, it is expected that the airport will switch to its round-the-clock operation with departures increasing to 34 flights per day. Undoubtedly, NMIA, created by contributions from both Adani Airports Holdings as well as CIDCO, is expected to be one of the major flying hubs for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
