Maharashtra Approves Rs 837 Crore Cyber Safety Project To Strengthen Fight Against Online Crimes

Mumbai: In a significant move to safeguard citizens from the rising wave of online frauds and scams, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Rs 837 crore cyber safety project. The goal is to equip the state with advanced tools and skilled professionals who can respond faster and more effectively to cyber offenses.

The state government said the new initiative will bring various modern technologies under one single platform. A dedicated control and command centre, technology-supported investigations, a centre of excellence, a Computer Emergency Response Team, a cloud-based data facility, and a security operations centre are all part of the upcoming infrastructure.

One of the most impactful features for the public will be a 24×7 call centre where people can directly register cybercrime complaints. This aims to make help easily accessible, especially for victims who struggle to navigate the current reporting process.

Cyber experts and trained manpower will be deployed to ensure cases are investigated thoroughly and result in stronger convictions. With online scams becoming more sophisticated every year, the government believes this project will enhance safety and restore public confidence in digital spaces.

Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved much-needed support for financially stressed sugar cooperative factories. These factories will now be able to seek loans from state cooperative banks with guarantees provided by the government.

The decisions reflect the state’s focus on strengthening both digital security and key sectors that support rural livelihoods.
