Indian Student Murdered By Stray Bullet In Canada, Was “Innocent Bystander”

Indian murdered in Canada: Harsimrat Randhawa was stopped at a bus stop on the way to work when the gunshots were discharged by a car passenger.

An Indian student, 21 years old, was killed in Canada after being hit by a stray bullet. She had stopped at a bus stop while on her way to work when the shots were fired by the occupant of a car. Harsimrat Randhawa was studying at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. Hamilton Police is investigating the murder that occurred on Wednesday, reporting Ms Randhawa as an innocent bystander.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto stated, in a post on X Friday, “We are greatly saddened by the unfortunate loss of Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa in Hamilton, Ontario.”

“According to local police, she was an innocent victim, killed by a stray bullet during a shooting episode between two vehicles. A probe into the murder is underway. We are in close touch with her family and are providing all the necessary help. Our hearts and prayers go out to the grieving family in this hour of grief,” the official said.

Hamilton Police in a press release reported that around 7.30 pm local time, it got reports of a shooting on Upper James and South Bend Road streets in Hamilton. The police arrived to find Randhawa shot in the chest. She was rushed to a hospital but died.

With recovered video footage, investigators identified a passenger from a black car who shot occupants of a white sedan. Just moments after the shooting, vehicles drove away.

Gunfire during the shooting episode also penetrated into the back window of a residence near by, in which TV-viewing family members were some few feet off. Nobody suffered any injury from it, as the police averred.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with security camera or dashcam footage between 7.15 pm and 7.45 pm close to the location of the shooting to contact the authorities and supply any information that can assist in furthering the investigation.
