A 5-year-old child died after a man allegedly administered rat poison to his three children following a family dispute, Mumbai police reported on Wednesday.

Mumbai — In a heartbreaking incident, a five-year-old boy lost his life after his father allegedly mixed rat poison into ice cream and gave it to his three children following a family dispute, according to Mumbai police.

The incident took place in the Mankhurd area. Police identified the deceased child as 5-year-old Alishan Mohammad Ali Ansar. His siblings, 7-year-old Alina and 2-year-old Armaan, were also given the poisoned ice cream but survived after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that both children are now out of danger and are responding well to treatment.

In an official statement, Mumbai Police said, “A man gave rat poison to his three children in ice cream after a family dispute. The 5-year-old child Alishan died. The other two children, 7-year-old Alina and 2-year-old Armaan, are undergoing treatment and are doing better.”

A case has been registered at the Mankhurd Police Station under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint filed by the children’s mother, Nazia.

Police added that the accused father fled the scene after the incident and is currently absconding. A manhunt is underway to trace him.

Residents of the locality have been left shocked by the tragedy, and many have called for stronger measures to support families dealing with domestic disputes to prevent such extreme actions.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
