Mumbai Airport Bust: Nearly 3 kg of Suspected Drugs Found in Checked-In Baggage, Three Detained

Mumbai, India — In a major anti-smuggling operation, Mumbai Customs Zone-III officials seized nearly 3 kg of suspected narcotic substances at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and detained three individuals, including two passengers.

According to customs officials, two passengers had arrived from Bangkok when they were flagged for inspection based on profiling. During a thorough check of their checked-in baggage, officers discovered 2.992 kg of a white powdered substance cleverly concealed among their belongings.

Authorities suspect the powder to be Methaqualone or Cocaine — both classified as highly addictive and illegal drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Samples have been sent to a laboratory for confirmatory testing.

The two passengers, along with a suspected accomplice, have been detained for questioning. Further investigations are underway to determine whether this was part of a larger smuggling network.

Customs officials praised their team for preventing the drugs from entering the country, highlighting the crucial role of airport surveillance and intelligence-based checks.

With frequent attempts to smuggle narcotics through international routes, officials say passengers should expect stricter scrutiny at airports in the coming days.
